Resiliency is the ability to face, overcome, be strengthened by, and even be transformed by experiences of adversity. It is the ability to ‘BOUNCE BACK’ from life’s challenges.
The Resiliency and Wellness Training Programme is a dynamic process that helps people adapt to context and adversity.
All adults, including students in university find themselves challenged as they adjust to changing environments and their usual support system. Their physical and mental health may become compromised, and they often struggle with satisfaction with their social life, educational opportunities, work, or daily activities.
Additionally, they often express concerns about their financial future and their general wellbeing. The American Academy of Medicine Elect 2022 has declared a global mental health emergency as a result of the pandemic with many persons not thriving as well as they could.
Events such as disease, death of a loved one, divorce, job loss, separation from families, pandemic, natural disasters or any change of circumstances affect their thoughts, and emotions; as well as impact their families and those closest to them.
Resilience is what helps them to adapt well to these events instead of feeling overwhelmed, dwelling on problems, using unhealthy ways to deal with stress and developing anxiety or depression. Not only does it involve bouncing back from life- changing situations, but it also empowers persons to grow and to improve their lives and those around them.
Even in the face of these events, individuals will strive to maintain inner peace which is a state of harmony that offers contentment.
This does not mean persons will not experience emotional pain, stress or difficulties, but these are the things that will help to achieve personal growth and resiliency.
